Morning Sickness...

...actually make that all day sickness, has reared its ugly head. I hate being sick and I hate throwing up even more. This leaves me in the predicament of feeling like I am going to throw up a lot and fighting against this feeling... a lot. My DH says I should just throw up because I will feel better if I do, somehow I don't quite believe him. Anyone else have any helpful advice? I am trying pickles and ginger ale today with some moderate success. I think it is more the ginger ale than anything else though.

In spite of the sickness, or more accurately because of it, I am constantly feeling reassured that this is a strong pregnancy, and I am *trying* to give my suffering up to God for the salvation of poor souls.

Nausea tends to be worst when your blood sugar is low or drops precipitously - so eat foods that stabilize blood sugar. Pair proteins with your sugars or starches. Cheese cubes were my best friend in the first trimester. Crackers with peanut butter, shredded turkey on toast, tuna pasta salad, bean dip and tortillas, quesidillas on whole wheat tortillas...all good foods to snack on through the day.

And since ginger ale seems to help, you might want to check your local crunchy grocery or co-op for candied ginger root, or ginger drops. I kept mints handy too to settle my stomach.

But really, once I started adding proteins to my carbs, I did much better. I hope that helps you too!

sea bands (the pressure point bracelet things) worked wonders for Emily & I.

BTW -- we'd still like to come visit in October...do you have your schedule out that far yet?

I can totally relate. I get "all day sickness" too. I've also found that it's related to blood sugar. I've found that when I force myself to eat something with protein first thing in the morning (even though I do NOT feel like it), it makes the whole day better. I've also found that taking lots of B vitamins and snacking all day works wonders. Glad to hear the pregnancy seems healthy!

I ate cheese and a pickle first thing this morning and it seemed to help. I also ate a few saltine crackers before I even got out of bed so I could make it through my shower. I tried ginger tea today too because the ginger ale seems to help. It didnt seem to help as much and made me gag at times so, unfortunately, I am going back to the ginger ale. I am not a big pop drinker normally and I know it really isn't good for me but it seems to work.
It is just so hard to make myself eat, especially meat right now, when nothing sounds appetizing. But then I feel worse if I don't eat. I might have to get those sea bands for work and see if they help. Speaking of which, if you guys just let me know which days you are planning on I can take them off work, or at least most of them probably.

I would say...although it might be too late now...do your very best not to throw up. For me, pregancy sick is not like the flu. I can't get it out of my system by throwing up. Throwing up while pregnant just seems to weaken my gag reflex. Obviously though, sometimes there is no stopping it.
